This work is about connection and sharing space with each other and the environment around us. It’s about honest communication and being fearless. When I came to Florida from California one of the first things I noticed was the presence of large birds, herons, egrets, Ibis and wood storks, all foraging around my lawn. Birds turning their heads and simply watching as I walked out of my house and opened my car door. Birds that I had watched fly away in an instant in other locations. Fearless birds.
Lighten the Load
Sometimes simply having a shoulder to lean on can lighten the load.
Something very intimate and healing happens when people share and listen to one another. I’ve heard a therapist call it a “sacred space”, and it was my intention to create that space in this painting.

Since the gulf is minutes from my home, I visit it often. Lately I’ve been taking photographs of people that happen to be standing nearby while I’m relaxing in a beach chair. I found the position of their hands interesting and cropped out the top of my photo to make their hands the subject of the painting.
