Calm Respite
30 x 40 x 1.5" Oil Painting: Oil on Wood.
My inspiration for this painting came when two women, spreading a blanket, caught my eye from across the beach. The sun was breaking through the clouds creating a dreamlike feeling.
I hope this painting has a calming effect and that you can imagine the blanket slowly settling on the sand.

Mandolin Music
This 16 x 20 " oil painting on canvas is framed in a medium grey wooden floating frame.
It is wired on the back and ready to hang.
Since I grew up in California, Bluegrass, or Mountain Music was not part of my upbringing. It wasn't until I started teaching Art workshops along the Blue Ridge Parkway that I became fond of its raw melodies and heartfelt stories. With each exposure, the rhythms began to grow on me.
When I look at this painting, I remember and hear the soulful tunes that inspired me to paint it. I hope it also arouses fond memories for you.
Intrigue

This painting started with the idea of two people connecting ambiguously, leaving room for the viewer's interpretation. I hope you find it mysterious and intriguing, a dream half-remembered or imagined for the future.

Caring Conversation -
20 x 24" oil painting on wood panel
Something very intimate and healing happens when people share and listen to one another.
I’ve heard a therapist call it a “sacred space,” and I intended to create that space in this painting.

Woman in Repose
This woman is resting; she is taking a moment to gather her thoughts.
Sometimes life becomes a whirlwind.
I hope that all women, well, actually all people, can take a moment for themselves to gather their strength and visualize their path.

Side by Side
When I visit the gulf (minutes from my home), I often take photos while sitting in a beach chair. I capture the shot from a low angle rather than an eye-to-eye perspective because I find it more exciting and out of the ordinary.
I use the photos as a beginning inspiration and most often change - well pretty much everything by the time the painting is complete. I changed the color and value of their legs to blend with the sand and shifted their bathing suit colors to harmonize with the water. I added some trees in the background and then created a horizontal line along the shore. The painting seems to dictate what it wants—an ultramarine blue square along the right edge of the picture. Fine, I tell myself, none of it has to make sense; it only has to feel right.
Because life can be complicated and challenging, I use the sky diver's adage: "Look where you want to land" as my guide. It is why I focus and often refocus on the pleasure and beauty of life. This positive essence is what I hope to share.

The Gift
40 x 30 x 1.5" oil painting on cradled wood panel
This painting was inspired by the uplifting feelings of both giving and receiving. The child is leaning forward and giving or perhaps receiving; in either case, there is an excitement, a sense of happiness. I want to evoke the feelings that are present during this act of kindness.
The figures are forming a triangle around the gift, which represents the kindness of human nature, us at our best.
"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." ―Pablo Picasso
I work with oils because I love their lush texture and natural look.
